Name:
Martinpaw
Gender:
Tom
Age:
6 Moons
Position:
Apprentice
Clan:
Windclan
Personality:
Martinpaw is almost a textbook case of newly-made apprentices clanwide. With every action he makes, he believes the eyes of the clan are upon him - so he tries to act appropriately and as grown-up as he believes his new position symbolizes. Walking around with his head held high and mind in the clouds, as he dreams of showing his mentor what he's made of, and his future career as a warrior of Windclan. He is bigger and stronger than he was as a kit - and he shows off his new bulk and strength any chance that he gets.
But the fact is, Martinpaw is closer to being a kit than he is to being a warrior. He holds within his compact body the same eagerness to please, the same overexhuberance and excitement for all that he does - as well as that unsatiable curiosity for the world around him. Having never really been away from camp - and always under the watchful eyes of his mother on small excursions - Martinpaw is testing just how much he can get away with; and generally gets underpaw of his clanmates than he actually helps. While some of the 'pranks' he plays on the clan could be seen as mean, Martinpaw really means no harm - he's just being a child.
Martinpaw's protective feelings over his sister, Ferretpaw, have grown stronger since their kithood - and anyone who makes a crack at her, will face Martinpaw - which is no small feet, as he's a rather, ahem....large tom. She's his partner in crime, and it's rare in downtime to see one without the other - even though the look nothing alike, it is like these two kits share one mind.
Martinpaw is beginning to learn that making friendships with other clans arn't exactly a good idea. Believing that he grew up in the clan, he is overly ferocious when it comes to meeting non-clan cats - and while any viciousness on his part is play-acting or show with anycat of Windclan - outsiders beware this little ankle-biter; Martinpaw assures himself that all other clans are out to hurt or drive Windclan away - but that's not going to happen on this apprentice's watch.
Appearance:
Martinpaw could be considered a handsome young tom - though he doesn't exactly want to be considered that by his clanmates - expecially by fellow female apprentices (in his head, all she-cat's besides Ferretpaw are all cootie-covered busybodies).
He has medium-length fur; that doesn't seem to be able to flatten itself, no matter how furiously he licks at it. Like someone rubbed him around a staticy area - if fur stands straight up from his body. This fur, however, is a rich, chocolatey color - solidly from his tail tip to his nose. His name derives from the color of his pelt - a similar color to an actual Martin.
While he is rather small now, Martinpaw promises to be a very large tom. His paws, for one, are huge - compared to his little body - telling the tom that he'll eventually grow into him. Already, he is larger around than his scrawny, slinky sister - this apprentice clearly excells in more brawn than his sibling will.
His eyes are rather large in his flattish face, a mix of amber and orange and brown.
History: As far as Martinpaw is concerned, he was born in Windclan - to a healthy, bright queen known as Gorsefur. However, Martinpaw was not born in the clan.
His story began a few moons earlier; when his supposed mother, Gorsefur, and his father Kitewing, were out for a romantic stroll around Horseplace. The two mates were preparing to have concieve their first litter, when the young warrior Kitewing, in an attempt to impress his mate, went tearing off after a rabbit - hoping to capture it and have a romantic dinner. Unfortunately, the rabbit lead him dangerous close to Horseplace - Fortunately, before the careless tom were able to run dangerous close to the great beasts that lived there, he was warned by another cat. In the large barn of horseplace, lived an apprentice aged she-cat, named Kay. Greatful for Kay's warning, Kitewing started up a friendship with Kay - much to the chagrin of Kay's fellow barnmate, Taz.
Gorsefur and Kitewing eventually concieved their own litter - but Gorsefur was not as happy as she thought she was. Kitewing was constantly leaving her, making excuses not to see her. While Kay and Kitewing's relationship was strictly one of friendship, the queen began to expect problems.
Kay, herself, soon found herself pregnant - and she explained to Kitewing how nervous she was over her first litter; fearful of raising them so near the dangerous horses. Kitewing offered to help her - and Taz, who had been watching them, took this as an insult. He drove Kitewing off, the loner scratching the warrior deep. While the wounds would have been superficial at best, Kitewing was wary of having them tended too - as he would most definately be question as to where he got them. He would later succumb to infection - a moon before Gorsefur was due to have her litter.
Gorsefur raised her family alone; giving birth to one kit who survived - Ferretkit. She avoided talking about Kitewing, until one day, after Ferretkit was old enough to start wandering around, she took her to a soft, sandy spot in Windclan Territory to play. She was approached by the brown she-cat, who explained to her her name was Kay. Along with the she-cat, was a kit; newborn and puny. Kay finally told her side of the story with Kitewing, and begged for Gorsefur to understand and uphold the late warrior's promise to take her kit. Taking pity on her fellow queen, she took the tom kit - who's name, she was told, was Martin - and named him Martinkit; explaining she had found him in an abandoned tunnel on the territory, next to the body of a dead loner (the 'dead loner' was never found by other patrols, of course). Gorsefur raised the tom as her own, and began telling the kits about 'their father', Kitesong - save for his interactions with Kay. Martinkit has never been told that he is not biologically Gorsefur's, and the clan has never been told his true parentage.
