She cast her gaze upward and frowned slightly. A storm was brewing in the sky.
As she watched, entranced, clouds gathered quickly overhead. They cast dark, menacing shadows over the lush landscape. Thunder groaned, and the wind rose, howling in reply. Rain began suddenly to pour, drenching the young cat's thick coat. It was past time to get home! But the river before her rushed, swollen and dangerous, blocking her way.
The medicine cat apprentice cried out, whirling around –
The birds chirruped. The sun smiled. Her pelt was dry. She blinked once and twice, disbelieving, and glanced around.
Where was the storm?
The storm is coming.
